Lamp.

Estelle Vachon

As a child, Estelle learned how to knit by watching her grandmother. Her talent in making necklaces, bracelets, and dream catchers gave her the opportunity to work many years at the craft shop in Uashat. Estelle mainly works with canvas, pearls, porcupine quills, and leather and has expertise in making traditional and contemporary tents. Her goal is to have her own craft business and, in the meantime, she is working on perfecting her crafts and broadening her knowledge.

Description

(2005) Metal frame, fabric, beads, embroidery thread.
"I created this lamp very quickly from my initial idea. On paper, I had drawn more interesting shapes but, because of time constraints, I finally decided on the cylinder. I would now like to experiment with those shapes and work with raw hide, or leather, which is transparent when dry and could create interesting lighting effects. I want to work with the traditional materials the Innu used and experiment with traditional techniques while creating contemporary lamps."
