Personalized decorative screens.

Camilienne Pinette

Camilienne was introduced to crafts in her village grade school by an elder of her community who gave lessons. Camilienne's works include slippers, moccasins, and beaded earrings and her expertise lies in her embroidery which depicts traditional and contemporary Aboriginal scenes. Just as her father taught her how to make traditional snowshoes, Camilienne hopes that cultural skills and knowledge will be handed down from generation to generation.

Description

(2005) Canvas, embroidery thread, wood.
"I had wanted to make screens for a long time. During the workshop, I thought of creating screens decorated with illustrations of family members. I wanted to make products which valued the family unit and which people could add a personal touch to. In determining how to represent people and motifs on the screen panels, I experimented with various embroidery and beading techniques on contemporary materials such as acrylic and thin plastic film. I will continue working on this project, creating a background behind the plastic panel which will enhance the beadwork. The results of my research work may possibly later be applied to the screens."
