Title of the work

"Hommage to my grandmothers Shan Kananin Vollant Mak and Kupanishkueu Michel". Tunic, pants, ruffles.

Caroline Michel

With both her grandmothers specialized in moccasin making, it is no wonder that Caroline learned the craft at an early age. Inspired by a yearning to understand, learn, and create, she took many art courses during her youth and eventually studied Fine Arts in 1996 at the Cégep de Sept-Îles. Caroline is familiar with various craft techniques such as wood and stone sculpting, modeling, porcelain, drawing, and painting.

Description

(2005) Synthetic satin, beads.
"My initial idea was to make a white leather wedding dress. I then went to the fabric store and looked at patterns for inspirational ideas. I chose this fabric. I did not think of this project again the entire summer. Upon returning to work during the fall, I realized that I could make my daughter's graduation dress; she was finishing her baccalaureate in Psychology. I worked from a pattern I purchased and made some changes. I drew the floral motifs which my cousin then beaded onto the ruffles. I did the beaded pant and tunic edging and am thinking of adding a beaded fringe to the ruffles."
