Lucienne Ambroise

Lucienne comes from a long line of Innu tradition and culture savvy women. She was taught at a very early age to make jewellery, handbags, coats, and hats. She later took an intensive training course on traditional leather sewing at the Centre d'amitié autochtone du Québec and specializes in embroidery, bead embroidery, and leather and linen sewing. A regular participant at native events where she sells her artwork, Lucienne has developed a flair for business. She recently participated in a permanent exhibit project for the Shaputuan Museum in Uashat.

Description

(2005) Fabric assemblage, vinyl, fringe.
"For many years, I have been creating products which I sell during pow-wows and other occasions. For the workshop project, I wanted to create a new line of office accessories. I experimented with various manufactured materials such as synthetic canvas and leatherette. Creating objects which have an Amerindian touch yet are made using modern technology, such as computerized embroidery, interest me."
